Case study

Prototype

Darkbite Tracker

A food and nutrition tracker built around logging a meal rather than searching a database. Log what you ate, track macros against a target, and watch progress over time — designed dark because every food app is a bright white box.

The idea

Logging food is tedious in apps that make you search a database of thousands of items. Darkbite is built around describing the meal instead, then tracking macros and calories against a daily target.

Interface

A deliberately dark, low-chrome interface — the point is that you use it at night and it should not blind you. Today's log sits next to a large remaining-calorie figure, with the macro breakdown underneath.

Status

An early prototype, parked since January. The screenshot shows the interface as it was built. The repository is public but the source was being published after the fact, so treat it as a prototype rather than a finished app.

What I learned

  • Input speed matters more than feature count for a tracker you are supposed to use daily.

What it doesn't do yet

Listed deliberately — a project's limits are as useful to a reviewer as its features.

  • Prototype — parked since January and not actively developed.
  • Food recognition and macro accuracy are unfinished.
  • No live build.
